Scholarship based admission procedure

Free education at the expense of the budget of the Russian Federation within the quota established by the Government of the Russian Federation implies:

  • free education at SPbPU;
  • receiving a scholarship in the amount of 3,000 - 11,000 rubles, depending on the level and field of study.

Before arriving at the University

  • How to fill the application

    Complete the application online and wait for an invitation to participate in selection events in your country of residence. Follow the instructions that apply in your country for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education quota scholarships of the Russian Federation.

    • after completing the selection events in your country of residence, find yourself on the list of candidates recommended for the second stage of the selection process;
    • wait for access to your personal account on the portal;
    • track the status of your application in your personal account.

  • How to know if my candidature is approved

    Your candidacy is reviewed and approved by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. 

    Keep track of the status of your application in your personal account.

    Once the "Under Consideration" status appears in your personal profile, your information is forwarded to SPbPU for consideration. The university reviews your candidacy and approves it at the SPbPU core institute.

    Timeline: January – April 2023

  • How to apply at SPbPU

    Once your candidature has been approved your application gets the  "Distributed" status, SPbPU sends you a link to the Applicant's Personal Profile. The admissions committee of SPbPU checks all documents and enrolls you in SPbPU.

    In order to be admitted to the university, you must submit your documents online through the applicant's personal account by the deadline. You do not need to come in person to submit your documents.

  • How to know that I admitted to the University

    The Ministry of Science and Higher Education prepares a Direction for study. When your personal profile shows the status "Directed", we can enroll you.

  • How to get visa

    The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation prepares a visa invitation number for you. This happens after you have been approved and enrolled in SPbPU.

    You can find your personal visa invitation number in the personal account. With this invitation number the student applies for a visa directly at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in your country.

  • Before you arrive at SPbPU

    You must confirm your arrival at the university by e-mail or telephone. This must be done 2 weeks before arrival in order to reserve a place in the dormitory (if necessary).

  • Translations of the documents and legalization

    Please note that when you arrive at the university, your prior educational documents must be legalized in the country where you studied.

    Legalization is a procedure for giving legal effect to a document issued in one country in the territory of another country. Educational certificates and diplomas can be legalized only in the country where they were issued.

    Important!
    Your passport and foreign documents about your previous education (diploma and supplement) must be translated into Russian and notarized before your arrival at the University.

After arriving at the University

  • Step 1. Dormitory

    When you arrive, check into the dormitory.

    Show your passport to security and you will be escorted to your room.

  • Step 2. International Student Department

    Visit the International Student Office for the necessary paperwork, final admission, and further information about your studies.

    • For admission to undergraduate/master's programs: Building 15, Room 206, 2nd floor
    • For admission to PhD: Building 15, room 204, 2nd floor
    • For admission to the Preparatory Department: Building 15, Room 301, 3rd Floor
  • Step 3. Passport and visa department and registration

    When crossing the Russian border at the customs, you will need to fill out a migration card. The purpose of your visit must be indicated as «Учеба» Keep the migration card until you leave Russia.

    Every foreign student arriving in Russia must present his/her passport with visa and migration card for registration at the Passport and Visa Department of SPbPU within 3 days after crossing the Russian border.

    Consequences for late registration can range from paying a fine to deportation from Russia.

    You need to prepare the following documents:

    1. Passport
    2. Migration card filled out in the above-mentioned manner
    3. Copies of all pages of the passport and migration card
    4. Direction from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science (obtained from the International Student Department)

  • Step 4. Health insurance, fingerprinting and medical examination

    Every SPbPU student arriving in Russia is required to purchase a health insurance in order to receive medical care at the University Medical Center (an outpatient facility). Health insurance issued through RUSSIA.STUDY is not serviced at our university's medical center.

    Each student of SPbPU arriving in Russia is also required to undergo fingerprint registration, photographing and medical examination. For more information, you can read HERE.

  3. notarized Russian translation of passport
  4. Photocopy of all pages of the passport and the visa
  5. Original educational documents and their notarized translation into Russian
