Initial Registration

Each time you enter the RF and receive a new migration card you must apply for a new migration registration with the migration service.

Your registration is the document confirming the legality of your stay in the territory of Russia.
Please do not forget to pick up a ticket indicating the purpose of your visit from the terminal in the lobby of the Passport and Visa Department (1st floor, offices #112 and #113).
  • For international students who arrive in Russia without a visa

    Abkhazia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Tajikistan, South Ossetia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine

    1. Submit documents for migration registration

    Each time you exit and enter the RF and receive a new migration card you must submit documents for processing the initial migration registration.

    If you are staying in a dormitory, the Passport and Visa Department will process your registration.

    You can check on the documents you will need for registration in the section Documents for Various Categories of Foreign Nationals

    If you are staying in a rented apartment, the apartment owner (landlord) should process your registration at the local Multifunctional Center (MFC).

    To be registered at the place of residence in a rented apartment please:

    • Contact the apartment owner and ask him/her to arrange for your registration within 7 business days after arrival
    • Contact the local MFC to specify the information and conditions (list of documents, office hours, contacts persons, etc.)
    • Submit a copy of your initial registration to the SPbPU Passport and Visa Department at #28 Grazhdansky Ave., office #113 or via e-mail pvo@spbstu.ru

    For processing your initial migration registration you will need:

    1. Your passport and Xerox copies of all passport pages (in case of entry with an identity card, please attach copies of both its sides); (if the copies were made before entering Russia, a copy of the page with the entry stamp must be added)
    2. The original plus 2 copies of the migration card (Please note that the purpose of your entry must be STUDY. Migration cards with other purposes shall not be accepted)
    3. A Xerox copy of the passport photo page with personal data and the migration card with the passport stamp on one A4 sheet of paper for the Passport and Visa Department
    4. A completed registration form.

    Pursuant to Russian legislation, foreign citizens who violate the immigration regulations (the period established for migration registration) are subject to a 7000 ruble fine and may be deported from Russia based on a court decision, with a further ban on entry into the Russian Federation for up to 5 years.

    2. Collect your registration

    If you are staying in the dormitory, your registration will be ready approximately within 5 working days upon submission of your documents. You can collect your registration at the Passport and Visa Department.

    If you are staying in a rented apartment, your landlord can collect your registration at the local MFC and give it to you.

    You must submit a copy of your initial registration to the Passport and Visa Department at #28 Grazhdansky Ave., rooms 112 or 113 or via e-mail: pvo@spbstu.ru.

    3. Apply to extend your registration in advance

    To extend your registration, please prepare a full set of relevant documents and submit them in person no less than 30 calendar days prior to your registration expiry date.

    Extension of the migration cards for the academic year and stamping them for students from visa-free countries is carried out at the University.
  • For international students who arrive in Russia with a visa

    If you arrive in Russia with a student visa, you shall submit your documents for migration registration at the place of your staying.

    1. Submit documents for migration registration

    If you are staying in a dormitory, the University Passport and Visa Department will assist you in applying for your registration.

    Processing of a multi entry visa for an academic year is carried out at the University.

    3. Apply to extend your visa in advance

    You can extend the period of your lawful stay in Russia for up to 1 year by extending your Russian visa. By instructions of the University Administration, your visa might be extended for a period less than one year.

    You can extend a single-entry visa and a multiple-entry visa.

    To extend your visa, you need to prepare a full package of documents and submit it to the Passport and Visa Department no earlier than 90 calendar days and no later than 45 calendar days before the visa expiry date.
